Lava is a natural volcanic rock that is extracted in blocks from quarries in the Massif Central region of France, that is then cut into slices several meters long. Depending on the precise measurements or plan transmitted by the client, the pieces are cut, pierced and finished.

Baked a first time at 1000 degrees C during 10 hours to insure that they are devoid of any natural cracks, the lava slabs are then enameled.

The absorption of the enamel by the lava is very long: the enamel must fill the many cavities in the lava, so that the process must be undertaken 10 to 20 times.

Next comes, depending on the project, the decoration of the lava slab and then a last baking of approximately 10 hours at 1000 degrees C.

After the lava slabs are removed from the oven and cooled, each is then carefully packaged in a custom-made wooden crate to insure careful transportation.
